Hi all, I've been trying to drag photos from iCloud to a folder on my desktop but it doesn't allow me. I've tried several things that people have told me to do but none have worked. I've created a folder on iCloud of the photos I want to transfer and they won't show up now either. HELP!!

Turn on photos box from Mac , so that photos sync and set up photo library Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support and its preferences Change preferences in Photos on Mac - Apple Support
And designate the photo library Designate a System Photo Library in Photos – Apple Support
Now you can export photos to untitled folder in finder .
Second method is select photos from www.icloud.com take cursor on top menu bar file > export as pdf , you have to save in untitled folder , open finder in iCloud Drive section > click on untitled folder , select iCloud photos.pdf , press space bar the photos will open , or you can right click over the file and click on open .

Select desktop from finder , the folder is already created on the desktop , click on export Export photos, videos, slideshows and memories in Photos on Mac - Apple Support
Open system preferences > click on apple id icon , if the box of photos is unchecked , click over it two or three times it will prompt to enter admin password , so enter it , it will showing setting up wait for a while ( the circle will rotate in front of it let it be completed ) .

Now open photo application and its preferences the setting must be according to screen shots .
Select photos from system photo library folder .
Take cursor on file > export .
And click on export .
Click on new folder click on create , it will be created again click on export .
tygb, thank you for help. When I've googled the problem (several times) the same response has sometimes come up. Unfortunately under 'File' there is no 'Export' option which I don't understand. Have you an answer to this or another method I could try? Cheers Baz
Thank you for all your help so far. I haven't got 'export' on my mac not under File or anywhere. I've tried dragging the photos, selecting all, copy (but it won't let me paste as not highlighted). I'm running out of options, any ideas?

How do I turn on photos on my Mac?
The photos icon and the iCloud drive have both got ticks by them. Any other suggestions?
In iCloud I created an album of the photos I want in the folder on the desktop but now they're just showing as squares whereas at the beginning I could see the photos. I'm going backwards!
I followed the instructions to repair my library but there was no Repair command anywhere.
You have to erase the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS .
