Can’t delegate my calendar

I am trying to delegate my calendar to share with my husband. I have followed all the Apple support directions on how to do so, but when I attempt to delegate my calendar and “add” a contact to it, nothing comes up when I type in a contact name or iCloud email address. No contacts come up at all, so I’m unable to add anyone. Based on Internet and Apple community searches, it looks like a lot of people have encountered this issue. Has anyone found a solution?

As far as my knowledge goes only iCloud Calendars can be shared.

Share an iCloud calendar

  1. Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap. next to the iCloud calendar you want to share.
  3. Tap Add Person, then enter a name or email address, or tap. to browse your contacts. Note: Your contacts must have an email address to share an iCloud calendar. ...
  4. Tap Add.
