Retrieving imessages

It appears that you had reset the passcode on your iPhone. As you have learned, that process deletes all data on your iPhone.

If you deleted your messages while using iOS 16 on your iPhone, then you can check by tapping on the EDIT button in the Messages app and then Recently Deleted Messages. If there are no deleted messages then Recently Deleted option will not appear. If your deleted the messages while using a previous version of iOS, then read below:

Recover Deleted Texts

If iCloud is set to ON for text messages and you deleted some text messages then they are gone from iCloud so cannot retrieved!  If this is the case then it is all over and no need to read further. You can double check by opening Settings ➡️ Apple ID (Your Name at Top) ➡️ iCloud ➡️ Messages: If this switch is set to ON, then you are using iCloud for Messages.

 If you do not use iCloud for text messages then you can restore your iPhone from a backup on your iCloud account (if you use iCloud to back up your iPhone). The other option is to restore your iPhone from a backup that you may have created on your computer. Once again, if you restore your iPhone from a computer back up then your texts will only be as current as the day and time the backup was created.

Your data is not lost if you have a backup either on iCloud or iTunes/Finder.

It depends on what data you would like to recover?

• If you have an iCloud or iTunes latest backup, then there is nothing to worry about. If not read more...
• iCloud backup doesn’t include information already stored in iCloud, like Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Mail, Notes, Voice Memos, shared photos, iCloud Photos, Health data, call history, and files you store in iCloud Drive.

If you had turned on iCloud for all the Apps shown above then your content is automatically stored in iCloud and is avaialable on all the devices which is logged in with the same Apple ID.

• Contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you had Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other
• Calendars, bookmarks, or contacts --> If you accidentally deleted your calendars, bookmarks, or ...
• Data stored in Cloud Drives (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox, Flickr, box, AmazonDrive, Adobe Creative Cloud etc)
• Notes that were with email client server --> Check your email accounts. Because many of the accounts have notes synced like Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo etc.

If you have not backed up or do not have the latest backup, nor imported nor you have synced to iCloud or uploaded your data to cloud drives or any other Cloud Drives prior to the situation that you are in, then I am sorry, all your data is lost.
