why is my Apple Pencil 1st generation connecting to the bottom of my iPad 7th generation?

You connect and charge Apple Pencil (1st generation) by plugging it into the lightning port at the bottom of your iPad, or charge it by plugging it into a lighting cable connected to a power adapter using the Apple Pencil adapter included in your Apple Pencil’s box.
