Hi,
I have a mac with Monterey 12.6.6 OS.
All my old emails at my me.com account have disappeared last week.
I'm sure I didn't delete them, they just disappeared!
And they're not in the bin.
Nothing I can find online works to recover them - references to V10 files I used to understand but now can't even find them.
Time Machine just shows the desktop when I try to go back in mail.

We see you're missing email associated with your iCloud email account for an @me.com address. We'd like to check a few things to see how we can help out.
To double-check, you checked the Trash folder in the Mail app as opposed to the macOS Trash, correct? If not, see these steps to see if they help: Delete emails in Mail on Mac
Also, when you checked your Time Machine backup, were you using the steps in this link? Restore items backed up with Time Machine on Mac. To recover specific items from a Time Machine backup, those are your best steps.
As another possibility, you could try signing into the iCloud website from a web browser on your computer: iCloud. Do you see your email there? Knowing that would help to work out what could be happening with the missing email.

I had tried all that.
As I said, the attempt to use Time Machine when looking at the email list just resulted in it showing the desktop and when I navigated to the email app icon and clicked on it, it just gave me the version and nothing else.
The emails that disappeared from my @me.com account were a long list of important emails I kept for security.
One day they were there, next day gone, and this is not the first time.
I use Claranet as primary provider and that forwards everything to @me.com with no problems previously.
I have decreasing confidence in Apple these days, all sorts of funnies happen.
I have reloaded OS twice before now to no avail.
I have a mac, iPhone and iPad and the emails have disappeared from all three.
