CD music uploaded to iTunes has disappeared

I was looking for an album in my uploaded music collection (uploaded to the old iTunes) and discovered that it's disappeared. I bought a new Mac two years ago so maybe that's when the music got lost? I haven't noticed until now as hadn't been listening to any of my old music. The albums which are missing were imported from purchased CDs. Sadly I no longer have the hard copies. Is there a way of retrieving my old music?

I thought I had. But when I went to the external hard drive where it was stored and clicked on it, it just brought up the current library. I don't think the time machine worked properly to be honest. I'm not the best with technology.

Do you have a Time Machine backup? That music would be there.
