why can i not open and close my garage door with homepod mini using the code in the mersoss app? I can control it using my phone and it doesnt even ask for the code or with alexa or google assistant but they both ask for the code which is expected. why do i need a homepod mini if i still have to do everything from my phone.
Support home kit. It’s in my apple home but every time you ask HomePod to open the garage door it says you must continue on your phone. If I ask my phone to open the garage door, it will do it and it also will do it on my watch just not on HomePod. Funny thing is it doesn’t even ask me for the code on my watch or my phone, but it will not do it at all on HomePod.
Is the HomePod signed into the same Apple ID as iPhone? In the home app long press on the HomePod icon, scroll down to settings (gear icon) to check you have personal requests turned on and Primary user is signed in. In your iPhone settings in find my make sure “share my location” is turned on.
Thanks for your reply. I checked all those settings and they are all as you suggest. I really think this is a security thing the Apple just does not do. What I am referring to above with Alexa is you have to enable it to open the door and said a code in the Alexa app so not just anyone can open your doors. My belief is that’s why it works on my watch and my phone is because it knows who I am but on the HomePod it does not so I am suggesting or questioning why they do not have a feature like Alexa or Google where you can provide a code to open the door from my HomePod. Otherwise, it’s pretty useless to put it in the Apple ecosystem.
Now we’re on the same page. So if you look back at my original question and responses I don’t understand why the Apple cannot follow what Google and Amazon are doing with their products and allow you to put in a code to verify that the door should be opened. I get the security aspect as I am in the cyber security field, but I also bought the product for convenience and it’s pretty crazy that I have to have an Alexa right next to the HomePod because I cannot do everything with the HomePod but I’m trying to use the entire Apple ecosystem. I am about to give up on it though.

if it does not support homekit then it would not work with the homepod even if it works with alexa, google or an app from the garage door manufacturer (mersoss app? )
Well apparently after looking into it more, it is a security feature on the HomePods that can’t be disabled.
I got the same problem and don't understand why it's a security issue , cause to work with homepod you must first setup your voice so siri recognizes you
