Apple Notes copy and paste / cut and paste buggy

Hi,

Copy and paste and cut and paste in Apple Notes on macOS Monterey 12.6.5 is still very buggy for me. Specifically, what happens is that sometimes I'll copy/cut a bit of text and then paste it, but it will paste a completely different segment of text, i.e. not what I had copied/cut.

My current workaround is undo -> then drag the piece of text I wish to copy/cut to another location in the document (even if it's just to the previous line) -> then undo again to bring the piece of text back to its original location -> then I can copy/cut paste the text fine.

It's crazy and infuriating to me, though, that such a fundamental feature can be so buggy.

I've read other threads but have found no solutions, so just posting here as a long shot, really. Any suggestions gratefully received!

I think I read a while ago about this issue, but only once or twice and I cannot reproduce it.

I imagine it does not occur for the vast majority of people, or we'd have heard it loudly around here.

This happening only some times makes it harder to troubleshoot.

Does this happen specifically on Notes and nowhere else?

Are these notes stored in icloud or other online service?

Hi,

Yes, on Notes and not any other apps, as far as I can tell. The notes are on iCloud, yes, but I never have this problem on my iPhone.

I recently did a fresh install of Monterey, hoping it’d solve the issue but to no avail.

The other ‘symptom’ I noticed is that when the cut and paste doesn’t work, usually I’m unable to check off a checkbox (the round circle) either. Only after I’ve done my trick that it works again.

How often does this happen?

If it happens only infrequently, then it is harder to test, but if it happens nearly all the time, try this:

add a new user account to your mac, log in to that account, and test for a while to see if the problem also comes up. If not, then it is likely caused by something specific to your user account - perhaps a conflict with something in your login items or user launch agents.

You could also run Etrecheck and post its report here. Maybe we can spot something there.
