how come my m1 macbook ejects my external hard drives when it goes to sleep?

how come my m1 macbook ejects my external hard drives when it goes to sleep? A pop up in the corner of the computer says "disk not ejected properly" (BUT I DIDNT EJECT IT!) I'm fine with the computer going to sleep but I'm not fine with it ejecting my external hard drive because then all my footage goes offline in premiere when I wake the computer up. sounds like 300 people have this problem too External Drives STILL ejecting during sle… - Apple Community. just updated my OS to ventura 13.3.1 and after the OS update the problem persisted. Problem persisted before the OS update too. Problem persists on multiple external hard drives so i dont think its a problem with the cable.

Troubleshooting Disk Ejecting Errors:

It seems to be an update bug going around. So, report it to Apple. See here: Disc not ejected properly - Apple Community

Report this as a Bug to Apple:

Do your Part: Inform Apple of your feedback of this issue. Include how you’ve troubleshot this, and your results. Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive from its users, the more likely they will know what needs to be fixed, and what bug fixes to include in update to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: "Software/Firmware Update" for the "Feedback Area"
  4. Comment: that this all started after installing an update, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL of this thread.
  5. Proceed from there as necessary

Troubleshooting Disk Ejecting Errors:

A. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting this once more. For instructions, go here: How to Use safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

B. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log into it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

No Success?...

C. Reinstall the macOS:

Go Here: How to Reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple SupportImportant: Be certain to create a backup of your Mac prior to all of this. That way, you can have something to restore from the Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Once reinstalled, try this once more.
