Apple Mail search feature not working very well

Thanks for your question. I have found that the search feature will not find an email that was deleted only a few days ago, much less a month or two. I use the sender's email address or the sender's name, or the subject, or the entire message. I have tried All Mailboxes, Trash, Archive, Sent. More often than not, I get results from 2013, 2019. Usually get one or two responses from 2023, but nothing valuable.
