You would be best advised to access your email account via your Mail Provider’s webmail portal - using a web browser from any computer. When signed-in, verify that your email is visible.

If your missing email messages are not accessible using webmail, your email has been deleted from the server. In such circumstances you’ll need to seek assistance from your Mail Provider - as they may be able to recover your mail.

If your missing email messages are accessible using webmail, the easiest method to restore your mail on your iPad is to delete the offending mail account from the iPad - then force-restart the iPad.

Deleting a mail account from iPad settings is easy:

Settings > Mail > Accounts > [Your email account] > Delete Account

With the account deleted, you can restart your iPad:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

After restart, re-add the Mail account:

Hello BobFort,

It sounds like you're missing some emails on your iPad that weren't intended to be deleted. What we'd recommend then is to review the troubleshooting steps listed at Delete and recover emails in Mail on iPad - Apple Support On there are steps to help recover emails if possible.

1. Tap the Sidebar button in the upper-left corner to view your mailboxes, then tap the Collapsed button next to the email account.
2. Tap the Trash button, then tap the email you want to recover.
3. Tap the Move button, then select a mailbox to move the email to.
Tip: To see deleted emails across all your accounts, tap Mailboxes at the top left, tap Edit at the top of the list, then select the All Trash mailbox.
