Magic Trackpad is jittery and overshoots

What do I need to do to make my Magic Trackpad work like it used to? It is jittery and overshoots, over scrolls pretty much everything. even if I slow its response down the problems persist. I'm using it with an iMac which also has acquired some sort of ad malware that is driving me nuts. My ad blocker is useless

I had this problem with my Mac Mini and Bluetooth trackpad, and I tried all of the suggested "solutions", including resetting Bluetooth, NVRAM etc. None of which helped. What worked for me was I unplugged my external USB disk drive. For me, this is totally repeatable, plug it in and the track pad lagging starts again (after a while). At first I thought "what does USB have to do with Bluetooth?", However, quick searches show https://gearspace.com/board/music-computers/818660-mac-mini-2012-usb-3-0-interferes-bluetooth.html that this is a known issue. "the practical upshot is that the signal from USB 3.0 devices can interfere with the 2.4GHz frequency of Bluetooth".
