Can't change timer volume iphone14

IOS version 16.4.1

When I set a timer and have a sound play when the timer is up, the sound is quieter than I would like.

I have followed the suggested solution to no avail (this did work on my older model i-phone but NOT on the 14):

Go to settings/sounds and haptics/ringtone and alert volume. I have the volume slider at about 85% (pretty loud) I also have "change with buttons" set to "on". None of this has ANY effect on the timer volume. In fact, when the timer goes off and I try to change it with the audio buttons, it actually STOPS the timer completely.

I'm sure there's some other setting controlling this (at least I hope so) but I have no idea where it is.

Not sure if this has been fixed but I think I’ve figured it out.

Turn on “Change volume with buttons”

Go to “Timer”, “When Alarm Ends”

Don’t select or change the sound.

Adjust the volume with the buttons and press “Set”

Worked for me. Mine was so loud that I jumped every time it went off.

UPDATE: I set a timer and left my phone on my desk. When it went off it was as loud as my ringer volume. But when I picked it up, it got quiet again! All the times I tested timer volume I was holding the phone when the timer went off. Apparently, there’s a feature that quiets down the timer when you pick up your phone! How obvious! Everyone knew that right? And the setting to disable this wonderful feature is clearly… um… yeah. So obvious.
