Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Seagate Expansion Drive”. Files can’t be copied onto the backup disk because it is read-only.

Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Seagate Expansion Drive”. Files can’t be copied onto the backup disk because it is read-only. I've not made any changes to my disk not sure why I'm receiving this message. I'm not out of space.


iMac 21.5″, macOS 13.3

This error can occur if there are small disk errors on the hard drive. Try using Disk Utility on your Mac to run First Aid to see if that will get things going again.


Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility


Select the drive to highlight it on the left panel and then click First Aid at the top of the window


When the process has completed, shut down the Mac, wait a minute and then restart and try a backup again.
