Vivitar 50 n 1 card Reader

I bought a Vivitar 50 n 1 card reader from Staples, the guy assured that it works great with MacBook Air. I can not get it to work. Can anyone help me

Starting in 2016, Macs started adopting USB-C only.

USB Type A (the left most connector) may still be the one used by your 50 in 1 adapter. This requires a powered adapter for the use of storage devices connecting to the MacBook Air. Both of these adapters can take the power source of the Macbook Air, if it uses USB-C and give enough power to connect a USB-A adapter:

If your 50 in 1 adapter uses a USB-C connector (the second from the left), use the pass through second connector with power, and USB-C on a second port hub such as this one:

If you have an older USB-A based Mac that has no USB-C, you'll want a powered USB hub like this one:

The Air generally does not have enough power for external storage on its own.
