end-to-end encryption not working on Iphone

End-to-end encryption is not working on my iphone. Under Cloud, I turned on advanced data protection but it still doesn't work. Help, please.

iPhone SE, iOS 16

I set up Data Protection previously. I assumed the texts could not be read by others. I did not want anyone else to be able to read them. The encryption works perfectly on my Chromebook (all messages are erased after other party reads them). I assumed it worked the same way with Iphone. Apparently, my assumptions are very wrong.

How do you know "End-to-end encryption" is not working. This is not something that can be seen. It needs to be tested by softwares.

On iPhone or iPad

Open the Settings app.
Tap your name, then tap iCloud.
Scroll down, tap Advanced Data Protection, then tap Turn on Advanced Data Protection.
Follow the onscreen instructions to review your recovery methods and enable Advanced Data Protection.
