Hindi Transliteration with Colemak broke after the Ventura 13.3.1 Update

I have three layouts active - QWERTY, Colemak and Hindi Transliteration.

Before the Ventura 13.3.1 Update, the source English keyboard for Hindi transliteration was the last selected one out of Colemak or QWERTY. So if I was using Colemak last, and I would change to Hindi Transliteration, the system would use the Colemak layout for taking the letters for transliteration.

But after the update, it is set to QWERTY permanently and there is no option for changing it. I have trained myself to touch type using Colemak and using QWERTY is very slow for me. Is there a way to bring things back to normal?

I have submitted a feedback to Apple.

For the time being, this is what I'm doing as a workaround:

  1. I deleted the Colemak layout from the Input Source in Preferences but left ABC and Hindi Transliteration as it is.
  2. I installed Karabiner-Elements and made two profiles. On one of the profiles, I added the Colemak complex modification and left the other profile as default.
  3. The Colemak profile is selected by default, and now it's the Karabiner app that does the key remapping. So Transliteration as well as normal Colemak typing works fine.
  4. If I have to use QWERTY, I just switch to the other profile on Karabiner.

It's a bit complex, but it gets the job done.
