iOS Lock Screen Weather Conditions Widget

I recently added the Apple Weather Conditions widget to my lock screen. I really like seeing the current temperature and conditions at a quick glance. However, sometimes it only shows the rain forecast for the next hour, no temperature. Is there a way to switch between the two, or is that automatic? I know there is another widget specifically for the temperature. I have reluctantly added it, but want to understand why the Conditions widget changes like that. Thanks.
