The fastest way is to log in to the webmail service and delete it from there.

No, it is not.

That is a lot, it will take times to delete all.
iCloud server must also process that, check again after a few days.
I have tried logging into Icloud and deleting old emails. after a couple of days they show up again---is it an attempt by Apple to put you over your storage limit?????
