External SSD does not mount (Mac mini M2 Pro, Samsung 4TB SSD, Ventura 13.2.1)

Hello Everyone,

I just got a brand new Mac mini M2 Pro and a brand new external 4TB Samsung 870 SSD Evo drive.

I format the drive with APFS in Disk Utility but constantly get the message that the drive cannot be mounted (see screenshot below). I tried to reboot the Mac several times now (waited a minute for everything to refresh) but no success.

Any suggestions would be fantastic.

Thank you!

Thanks! I found a fix though: I first formatted the drive as a Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then I called Apple Support and the agent told me to open up Disc Utility and hit Edit > Convert to APFS. That did the trick. No idea why - but it worked
