Followup emails have started appearing in my inbox on my iPad and iPhone. How do I turn this off?

iOS/iPadOS16 has introduced a number of new features - one of which is Mail Follow-up. This is an “intelligent” feature that detects, for messages that you send, that a question has been asked for which a reply is anticipated.

If you don’t wish to use this feature (that is enabled by default), it can be disabled in device settings:

Settings > Mail > [Messages] Follow-Up Suggestions - set to OFF

iGB has a nice explanation of how the Mail Follow-Up feature works - and how to use it:

At present, the iPad User Guide - usually an excellent source of information about iPad and iPadOS, offers almost no information about this feature - limits comment to how the feature is enabled/disabled.
