No iMessage or FaceTime since 16.4.1

Since the update to iOS 16.4.1 I cannot activate or use FaceTime or iMessage with my mobile number. They activate instantly with my Apple ID email address - but mostly people have my number not email- so it’s not much help.

I have already undertaken the following proceedure twice in the past day with no luck:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
  2. Go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.
  3. Restarted phone
  4. Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on.

Normal text messages /greenies work for me.

Thanks for any help!

To activate iMessage and FaceTime using your Phone number

First, check to know whether you have an SMS plan enabled at least for One SMS*** with your carrier. Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider) the agency that issued the SIM to you

If your iPhone is used with a carrier not found in the wireless carrier articles, make sure you can send and receive international SMS. (One SMS*** Only)

If you can't turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple ...

*** You may not have an SMS plan enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc does not provide SMS services.
