My Epson Perfection 700 Photo scanner will not connect to Ventura. The Epson Scan2 software does not recognize the scanner. It worked fine until I upgraded to Ventura. Epson is no help. Is there a work-around?

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
If that doesn't help go to Canon's European sites and see if you can get a driver or software that works with Ventura. Europe has more stringent compatibility requirements thru the EU and offers drivers and software that are not available in the states.
Does it work with the Image Capture app in your Application folder?

Go to the Epson web site and download the latest ICA scanner driver for Image Capture here:

Use the Image Capture app for scanning.
I tried that. I deleted the scan2 app and got it again but had the same issue. I really don't want to have to get rid of this scanner. If I can make the epson driver work again I can get the silverfast software back and resume the ability to scan slides and negatives. There is simply no comparable scanner currently available.
Was it the ICA Scanner Driver v5.8.12 for Image Capture that you downloaded? It is the file below the "Scanner Driver and Epson Scan2 Utility".
That should get you scanning again, but you would have to use the "Image Capture" software located in your Applications folder and don't know if it would fix it for Silverfast.
I finally figured it out. On my new M2 laptop there is a 'hidden' privacy setting that would not let any other 'outside' devices talk to my computer. This included ANYTHING connected by USB. Once I found and fixed that, I was good to go and the scanner now talks to the computer.

This has been driving me nuts since I got my new MAC laptop 2 weeks ago. I finally figured out it wasn't the scanner when an external hard drive also would not connect.
Go to Security
Then to 'allow accessories'
the default is to 'ask permission' but in reality that setting blocks USB access and does not 'ask for permission' to connect via USB (no idea what it does with firewire)
Change it to 'always'
then it allows USB connection and all the things (CD readers, external drives, scanners, etc ) that use USB connections work again
Care to share where you found the hidden privacy setting so others will know where to look?
