using a web cam (external ) with iMovie

I want to record using iMovie, but not using the built in cam on my iMac, is this possible? the previous answer included QuickTime but that's not an option now

Prezi does mess with the system video subsytems of OSX "at the metal" and will make your BlackMagic camera not appear in video chat apps like Zoom. So, I find that I have to run the SUDO command at the terminal to reboot the Core Video VDCA Assistant after a recording session. Open terminal and enter this command. sudo Killall VDCAssistant And I have to hard reboot my Atem Mini. (unplug power, wait one minute, plug back in) So those are the workarounds until Apple can understand that the BlackMagic Atem Mini is a valid Web Cam source and they support it.

Does Continuity Camera work with iMovie? Does continuity camera worth with iMovie. In other words, with Photo Booth I can record via bluetooth from iPhone camera using continuity camera -- is there a way to do the same with iMovie, so that I can record direct from iPhone to iMovie using continuity camera?

Unfortunately both Final Cut Pro and iMovie can only record using the built in webcam.

QT Player and Photo Booth are the only other options.

You will get better quality video if you use a decent mobile phone or camera though it does involve extra work setting it up and transferring the video to the computer.
