Time of day triggered automations no longer running automatically

Started a few days ago. I have automations that are triggered by time of day. Ask before running is disabled. But everytime the scheduled time arrives, it doesn’t run it automatically unless my phone is unlocked. It gives me a prompt to tap Run for it to do the automation. I’ve checked the settings of my shortcut and the Allow running while locked is also enabled.

There could be several reasons why your time-based automations in iPhone Shortcuts are not running automatically. Here are some things you can check:


  1. Make sure that your iPhone is up-to-date and running the latest version of iOS.
  2. Check that your Shortcuts app is also up-to-date.
  3. Check that your automations are enabled. To do this, open the Shortcuts app, tap on the Automation tab, and make sure that the toggle switch next to your automation is turned on.
  4. Verify that the time-based trigger is set up correctly. Double-check that the time and date settings are correct for your automation.
  5. Check that your iPhone's time zone is set correctly. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that the "Set Automatically" option is turned on.
  6. Restart your iPhone and try running the automation again.

I’ve tried all of those + troubleshooted with Apple Support twice (via chat and via call) and still have no idea why it’s not working.


Here are the things I’ve tried:

  1. Updated phone
  2. Updated apps
  3. Reinstalled apps that I use the automation for
  4. Restarted my phone
  5. Force restarted my phone
  6. Recreated the automation
  7. Reenabled the automation
  8. Used a different app for an automation
  9. Tried it with the Notify when run enabled and disabled
