My iPhone 11 plays sounds fine but on incoming calls the ringer is always too quiet to hear. Tried checking volume control etc

Try checking Settings>Accessibility>Face ID & Attention>Attention Aware Features and making sure it's turned off.

I hadn't noticed that that option (Attention Aware Features) is also located in Settings>Accessibility>Face ID & Attention. I always thought it was only in Settings>Face ID & Passcode. I'm getting old :(

Ha! A duplicate which allows us to offer two different paths to be enabled/disabled ;).
