How do I sort messages by size in Mail on an iPhone. I'd like to delete some of the large messages to save space.

When I do this, there is no "size" category to sort by. The only choices are: Unread, Flagged, to: Me, Cc: Me, Only Mail with Attachments, only from VIP, and Only Mail Sent Today.

Hello Eric-H-C,

Thanks for checking that.

We want to take a quick step back. If you’re looking to save space on your device, you will need to check to see if your email is an IMAP or a POP3 account.

The reason this is important is, when you use a POP3 account, all emails are downloaded to your device then immediately removed from the mail server. That means the only location of those emails is on your phone. Deleting these emails will make a noticeable impact on your device storage.

If you use an IMAP account, you will not notice as much of an impact. This is because with IMAP, the emails always remain on the email server. You use your phone to access the email server and view the emails. You can access these emails from any device you can log into.

To check your email settings, you can enter your email address here: Mail - Official Apple Support

Also, the options available for sorting can vary based on your email provider. Some providers may not make sort by size as an option.

If you are looking to manage the storage on your phone, you can do that following the steps found here: How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

We hope that helps.

Kindest regards.

Hi there Eric-H-C,

The available ways to filter emails in the Mail app on your iPhone are shown using these steps from Filter emails in Mail on iPhone:

Filter emails
1. Tap the Toggle Filtering button in the bottom-left corner of a mailbox list.
2. Tap “Filtered by,” then select or turn on the criteria for emails you want to view.
To turn off all filters, tap the Toggle Filtering button. To turn off a specific filter, tap “Filtered by,” then deselect it.

The emails using the most storage space will likely have an attachment so ensure 'Only Mail with Attachments' is selected as a filter.

You can also further organize your email using this helpful article: Organize email in mailboxes on iPhone

Take care!
