Muted iMessage Conversation Notifications on Apple Watch

Even with notifications set to “mirror iPhone“ the notifications from muted conversations are still showing up on my Apple Watch.

This limits the utility of the Apple Watch and should be fixed by Apple urgently. It has been broken for over a year.

Other threads in the Apple Discussions forums suggest fixes none of which work. Apple won’t even acknowledge that this is a bug. Can I get a witness here?
