Only 1/4th of my Mac’s screen is showing?

I just logged in after awhile and the screen is nearly gone! I let my little brother play with it from time to time so I’m not sure if he messed something up. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Hi MiaKL,

We'll help you figure this out. Your brother may have done something to adjust the display resolution on your iMac. You may need to reset the resolution in safe mode to bring it back to the default choices for your iMac. This article explains:

If there’s no picture on your Mac after you change the resolution - Apple Support

Reset the resolution in safe mode

If you can’t reset your display’s resolution automatically, you can restart your Mac in safe mode and choose another resolution.

1. Start up your Mac in safe mode.
2. Startup may take a bit longer than usual, but your display should begin working correctly.
3. After your Mac starts up, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Displays in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
4. Click Default on the right to use the best resolution for your display.
5. Restart your Mac normally.
