Sony TV HomeKit and AirPlay problem

Good morning. I purchased a Sony XR55X90K. Couldn't get the darn thing to work with Airplay or add it to HomeKit. I called Sony and attempted all of their 'remedies'

  1. Check date/time is correct
  2. Check iPhone is up to date--needed a minor update
  3. Check Sony for updates--turns out I had to buy a flash drive and update the firmware manually because the latest update hadn't rolled out yet. This was also done
  4. Ensure both devices were on the same network--confirmed
  5. Privacy policy accepted on Sony--confirmed
  6. Reset, retry Sony as well as with iPhone. No luck

I just got off the phone with Sony and they say it must be an apple issue as we performed all of the steps required by Sony. I find that hard to believe considering I attempted to connect with 2 different iPhones and one iPad with the same result. Also, my phones etc work with my Samsung TV just fine with AirPlay and so many other items.

Does anyone know of a magic bullet to get this figured out? Each time I scan the QR code it just tells me it couldn't connect after a few minutes. Frustrating to say the least.

Hello CarlosDanger4,

Please check out the suggestions in the following link to ensure the correct process is being used to add an accessory to the Home app, and ensure all of the requirements have been met, so we can make sure there aren't any issues there: Add an accessory to the Home app

Before you add an accessory

* Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
* Make sure that your accessory is powered on and nearby.
* Check the accessory's manual to see if it needs additional hardware to work with HomeKit or Matter.
Add accessories with your iPhone or iPad
To add an accessory to the Home app, use your iPhone or iPad. You can't add accessories to the Home app on Mac.

The Home app screen on iOS showing the Add Accessory tile

1. Open the Home app and tap Add  .
2. Tap Add Accessory .
3. Use the camera on your iPhone or iPad to scan the eight-digit HomeKit code, or QR code on the accessory or accessory documentation. If you have an iPhone 7 or later and see NFC-compatibility symbol on your accessory, hold your iPhone near the accessory to add it.
4. When your accessory appears, tap it. If asked to Add Accessory to Network, tap Allow.
5. Assign your accessory to a room and name it to help you identify it in the Home app and control it with Siri.
6. Tap Continue, then tap Done.

You must set up a home hub to add Matter accessories to the Home app.

Some accessories, speakers, and smart TVs might require software updates or additional setup with the manufacturer’s app.

Samsung AirPlay-compatible smart TVs don't support HomeKit and can't be added to the Home app.

For AirPlay issues, please check out this link as well, which has some information that may be helpful in resolving that concern: If screen mirroring or streaming isn't working on your AirPlay-compatible device

Try these steps first

After each step, see if you still need help.

1. Make sure that your AirPlay-compatible devices are turned on and near each other.
2. Check that the devices are updated to the latest software and are on the same Wi-Fi network.
3. Restart the devices that you want to use with AirPlay or screen mirroring.

If you're prompted to enter a password, you might have restrictions turned on, or you might need to adjust your AirPlay password settings.

Thank you!
