This is generally a hardware issue. If the unit's on an OS version older than 16.3.1, you might be able to fix it by updating it from a computer or the Software Update function in Settings; otherwise, contact Apple Support.

If your iPhone's TrueDepth camera is not working and you're unable to use Face ID, there are a few steps you can try to fix the issue:

  1. Clean the TrueDepth camera and sensors: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the TrueDepth camera and sensors on the front of your iPhone. Make sure there is no dirt or debris blocking the camera or sensors.
  2. Restart your iPhone: Press and hold the Side button and either volume button until the slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your iPhone. Then, press and hold the Side button again until the Apple logo appears to restart your iPhone.
  3. Check for software updates: Make sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS by going to Settings > General > Software Update. If there's an update available, tap Download and Install to update your iPhone.
  4. Reset Face ID: Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and tap Reset Face ID. Then, set up Face ID again.
  5. Contact Apple Support: If none of the above steps work, contact Apple Support or make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your iPhone inspected and repaired by a professional.
