When I answer calls on my MacBook pro they can't hear me.

I use to be able to answer calls on my MacBook pro and have a normal phone conversation. I can still answer the phone call and hear the caller but they cannot hear me. What's the fix?

If you are using the latest Ventura software on you Mac, choose System Settings under the Apple Logo in the menu bar, then Sound.

Check the Input tab has the built-in MacBook microphone and the input volume below that should be in the middle. You can try talking and see if the Input Level recognizes the sound by bouncing around. If you don't see anything moving in the input level when you are talking, it may be a microphone issue. If the input level does bounce around when talking, it could be that FaceTime does not have permission to use the microphone, which is another setting.

Hey there Jackgons,

Let's help get your mic working as it did in the past when answering calls on your Mac. We'd like to confirm more details to better understand what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. Since it did work before, when did this start to occur?
  2. Is there anything connected to your Mac besides the charging cable, and if yes, please disconnect it to test for the same issue.
  3. Does the mic in your Mac still work in other apps without any issues?
  4. It'll depend upon which OS version you have installed, but if you check within the Sound settings on your Mac to check for what the 'Input' is set to, does it show the built-in mic selected?
  5. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
  6. If you have a compatible Mac model, the latest version is macOS 13.2.1. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!
