Significance of dim, very dim, third LED indicator on iMac logic board
I replaced the logic board on an iMac 27" 5K Retina Late-2015 with a pre-owned board from the very same iMac model.
No problems with the install.
Before attaching the screen, I powered up the iMac to make sure everything was working.
Sure enough, the fan started and I heard the startup chime.
And the first three LED indicators on the logic board were illuminated.
Or were they?
The first two LEDs shone brightly as expected, but the third (which indicates communication between the GPU and the computer) was much dimmer.
Shut down, started up again and same thing -- a very dim third LED indicator.
Hooked up the screen and restarted.
Nothing on the screen.
Started up again.
This time the screen showed some activity (I had also replaced the HDD with an SSD without the OS).
Lifted the screen slightly away from the body and saw all four LEDs glowing brightly.
However, subsequent start up attempts showed no screen activity and a return of the dim third LED.
I had understood the the indicator LED are either ON or OFF, but not half-on.
I can find no references to a dim third LED on an iMac although there are quite a few mentions of a dim fourth LED.
Has anybody else had a similar experience and can help me understand the significance of this?
Thanks
