AirPods serial numbers

I found someone selling airpods on facebook marketplace, but when i looked up the serial number i found another listing for airpods in germany with the same serial number. Is it possible that 2 of them can have the same serial number or should i just avoid buying these all together? in the photos i attached, the one with the gray background is the one from facebook marketplace, and the one thats on the wooden table is the one from germany. thanks!

Serial numbers should be unique, no questions whatsoever. I would be very surprised if Apple has duplicated a serial number. Putting that SN into Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support shows an expired warranty so these AirPods are by no means new. That gives me some significant concerns about the Apple box on the brown table top, which seems to show a manufacturing date 02/2023 (last month at the time I write this).

I also notice the product codes MQD83AM/A and MQD83ZM/A both refer to identical numeric model codes. This is less definitive than the serial number, but again it raises some concerns. There is of course the possibility that both products are rather less than genuine.

I think on balance I would be looking to purchase a new product direct from Apple, either the online store or a real brick and mortar high street Apple Store, with full warranty cover and the option to add AppleCare+ protection.
