undo accidentally deleted characters in iOS note

As of 2019 ("How do you undo/redo in the Notes app in the icloud on a PC?") there was apparently no way to undo typing mistakes in iCloud Notes. How pathetic. Is this still (in 2023) incredibly the case?

Accidental deletion of part of a note on the PC (in iCloud - Notes) was immediately synchronized to my iPhone, but shaking the phone does nothing to restore the text, nor does attempting to use the undo/redo buttons that are available in the Notes app on the phone.

Could it actually be true that there STILL are no undo/redo functions in the iCloud app??

Thank you for clarification.

It will be hard to believe this is the case, but at least I and others will know not to ever trust iOS Notes with anything again.

Hi there qrs19,

If you make a mistake in the Notes app on your iPhone itself, are you able to shake to undo that? We want to see if this is happening if the mistake is done on the iPhone originally and if it still is not working properly if you shake to undo.

If needed, you can make sure that setting is still enabled in Settings > Accessibility > Touch. If shake to undo isn't working properly on your iPhone, you can see if restarting your iPhone may help as it can refresh the iOS and resolve unexpected issues. If needed, below shows how:

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

Those steps are from this article: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support If you need a different iPhone model, that article would have that information for you.

As for any feedback or suggestions you have for iCloud (for either iCloud for Windows or iCloud website), you can submit feedback with the following link: Feedback - iCloud - Apple

Take care.

Thank you very kindly for your reply, but that does not address my concern.

The shake to undo on the phone is not the issue. Rather, I am referring to using iOS Notes in iCloud from a browser or from an installed computer application (i.e. Windows iCloud app).

Because iCloud (and the cloud in general) are so fast nowadays, any mistake you make on the non-iPhone device immediately gets pushed to iCloud and down to all synched devices. The shake to undo function apparently does NOT work in this situation.

Every other note application on the face of the earth or ionosphere has an undo function. This has been true since the 1980s with DOS text files, through Palm Pilots and every other darn thing. How Apple can deign to forego this in their iOS application for which they ALLOW use in browsers and on non-iOS devices is beyond comprehension. I had no idea this was the case. It's like suspecting a person you meet on the street didn't have the ability to stop and take a step backwards. It makes ZERO sense and I can only think it is part of yet another nefarious Apple scheme to entice people, what? into Macintosh computers or something? No idea. Otherwise makes no sense. Yet another reason to marvel at what Apple has provided to users in general but still arbitrarily decides to torture those same users with.

Dear Tom G. & Neil22R,

Thank you for your replies. Sure I can do those things...

My reason for this post was to confirm what I couldn't believe to be true. Therefore, just to be clear, please confirm or deny the following: I am not imagining or missing anything? It really is impossible to undo something simple like character deletion in iOS notes on anything other than a shakeable iOS device?

Thanks again.
