Problem with iCloud storage after 'Stop using Family Sharing'

I was part of Family Sharing group in order to use the family iCloud Storage which was 200GB. Now the iCloud storage ran out of free space so I decided to stop using Family Sharing to free up space for the other family members having in mind that I've bought a new iPhone device which has enough local storage to transfer the data from my iCloud account to my device. Considering my files are already transferred, I followed these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Family. If you don't see Family, tap your name, then tap Family Sharing.
  3. Tap your name.
  4. Tap Stop Using Family Sharing.

So now I am no longer part of the Family Sharing but what also happened is that I received 200GB iCloud Storage. Can someone explain to me what might have happened considering that I didn't purchase that storage plan and my storage plan is set to 5GB (the free one)?

Greetings denitsa146,

It sounds like you may be using temporary iCloud storage.

"How much time you have to restore your temporary backup

You have 21 days to restore your temporary backup to your new iPhone or iPad before your temporary iCloud storage expires and your backup is permanently deleted.

Do not erase your current iPhone or iPad until you restore your temporary backup to your new device.

If your new iPhone or iPad doesn’t arrive within 21 days, you can get an additional 21 days to restore your temporary backup before it’s deleted. On your current iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap Keep My Backup Longer.

To request additional time to restore your temporary backup before it's deleted, contact Apple Support." Get temporary iCloud storage when you buy a new iPhone or iPad

If so, you'll need to ensure that your storage will be below the 5 GB before the 21 days. Learn how to manage your iCloud storage here: Manage your iCloud storage

We hope this helps!

Best wishes.
