iMessage Photos and Videos Deleted, but still shows up in Settings / Storage / Messages?

iCloud backup was full and the culprit was photos and videos in my iMessages.

I have spent hours painstakingly deleting 99% of the photos and videos in my iMessages. (200MB max remains)

However, when I go to Settings / General / iPhone Storage / Messages the storage space is unchanged and I can still see lots of the videos and photos that I've deleted (they no longer appear in iMessage). My iMessage folder is still too big to backup to iCloud.

I have emptied my camera roll and recently deleted files. Is there something else I need to do or should I have deleted everything from iPhone Storage, rather than from inside the iMessages?

I have offloaded everything I wanted to keep to my Mac. Could this be the problem?

Thanks for any pointers...

Greetings Klicho,

Since your iCloud storage is not calculating as expected, work through these steps:

  1. Restarting can help resolve unexpected behaviors, so Restart your iPhone.
  2. Also, ensure that you are fully up-to-date, since updates can also contain fixes. Update your iPhone or iPad
  3. Contact Apple Support for additional guidance. They will be in the best position to support you.

We hope this helps to clear storage in iCloud.

Best wishes.
