Using 16.3.1, iPhone no longer gives a sound notification for iMessages

I have checked Haptics & Sounds, Messenger settings, focus settings, logged in and out of iCloud, rebooted, hard rebooted, reset settings - nothing brings back the sound notification of a new iMessage when phone is locked.

Very frustrating. Any other solutions? I spent way too many hours last night trying to troubleshoot what is more than likely a bug in the latest update as other friends report the same issue.

IMO it is not a bug. I have an iPhone 13 Pro on iOS 16.3.1 and when my wife (iP13PM) iMessages me I get a sound notification.

I would open Messages and verify that Play Sound and the Default sound are both selected. If that does not help I would Restore from a backup.
