You’re missing the point here Acumen. Turn off and delete messages doesn’t work. That is all we want.

I'll see your inability to control your own message app and I'll raise you the inability to disable Siri and dictation, which I have never used in my life, and yet it's consuming my storage and who knows what else on not only my phone but like you, in iCloud too. I don't even have an option to view the data on iCloud website. It's beyond frustrating and unethical in my opinion.

Try click on manage Storage on your iPhone or Mac > Settings > your name > iCloud > manage storage

If you feel you don't need backup at all even in 5 gb plan, try to find whether photos app took most of your free backup. then toggle it photos to off. So you will get considerable amount of free iCloud space of 5 gb.

Rest of the operations like messages toggle on / off could be done once you have free space on iCloud.

Still you have doubts, do share a screenshot for us to refer your icloud storage full issue.

Hi rollcamera,

Think in laymen's perspective. All I could feel after being with apple since 2009. Their idea is to give you product with free 5 gb iCloud plan for life as Steve jobs dreamt off. May be in future apple could come up with free 50 gb iCloud plan based on the subscribers growth. If you toggle photos app off in basic 5 gb plan, I think your iPhone will be backed up for life as other data is very less.

If you upgrade or suffer from a broken iPhone. Then you will benefit from the iCloud storage on your new device with all your data like contacts, messages, notes, app data etc.

Explain me with screenshot.

I mentioned, go to settings > your name > iCloud.

Find where photos app is on. Then toggle off could free up iCloud space 5gb.

During this time your iPhone should be in charge connected with wifi internet

Once you get enough storage in 5gb iCloud Drive. restart your iPhone, try checking messages action toggle.

IT should work for sure.

Hello Gordon Shamway,

We understand that you're not able to turn off Messages in iCloud, on your Mac and your iOS device. You mentioned that your iCloud storage is full. Therefore, this may be the root cause of the issue. We suggest that you follow these steps to manage your storage or upgrade to iCloud+ to see if that helps:

Manage your iCloud storage

Let us know if this helps.

Cheers.
