Cant add .m4p files to apple music library

Due to another unrelated issue, I had to create a new AppleID which also meant a new Apple Music subscription. I have a ton of my music downloaded locally on my computer and I wanted to reimport my old music to the new library.

When downloading the songs they downloaded as m4p files but when trying to drag and drop into the Music app nothing happens. I tried double clicking but nothing works.

Doing some research it looks like these songs are "protected" files which I thought meant they would only play on a device with an active apple music subscription but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is there any way I can get these songs again? Manually searching and adding 6000+ songs is a pain and I'm not even sure all the songs are still on Apple Music

MacBook Air, macOS 13.2

Changing Apple IDs rather than updating the email address associated with an existing Apple ID is generally going to lead to problems. Redownloading content from multiple IDs is complicated as you get locked into an ID for 90 days when you do this or enable Apple Music. As far as Apple Music subscription content goes this cannot be imported into a library, it must be downloaded directly. A working library can be moved from one computer to another, but the tracks cannot be imported, iTunes will silently reject them. In addition with a new Apple ID any purchases from an old Apple ID are going to be excluded from iCloud Music Library.
