Can't unsend messages on iPhone

In addition to the requirement of having iOS 16 to 'unsend' a message using an iOS device, Apple advises in Use Messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support that "If you unsend a message to someone on an older version of iOS, iPad OS, or macOS, your contact might still see the message."

You can only unsend a message within two minutes after sending and 15 minutes to edit.

This is what I’ve found…

If more than two minutes have elapsed since you sent the message, you can no longer unsend it (although you may still be able to edit the iMessage).Aug 4, 2022

I don’t understand I’m having the same issue. Everything is up-to-date I have 16.6 of been able to understand an edit in the past but now all of a sudden not one message will understand or allow me to edit within the 2 minutes and 15 minutes and I cannot find an actual answer other than making sure your iOS is up-to-date and you do it within the allotted time did the devs do something?

I am having the same issue and I am up to date. With the same person, sometimes I can edit & unsend and sometimes I can't. And my phone is updated. :/

It is usually 10 seconds

I am having the same problem on IOS 17 unsure why though? It works sometimes and not at all randomly.
