Apple Contacts on MacBook Pro and Ventura using Lists

For the last several versions of Contacts, including the latest (Version 2538.3.1), after adding new contacts to the Contacts app on my 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max I always have to quit and restart the Contacts app to be able to drag any contacts to a list, same thing if I want to remove any contacts from a list. It doesn't seem to be a problem on my iPhone or iPad, just the MacBook Pro. Is anyone else seeing this issue, and is there a solution? It's not a new problem, just worse with the latest version of Ventura (13.2).

Good afternoon EightWheels2,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you are having an issue adding and removing contacts from a list in the Contacts app on your Mac, and we'd like to help.

Can you provide a little more information about what you are experiencing?

  • How long has this been going on?
  • Are your contacts stored in iCloud, or in email accounts, or both?
  • Do you use Microsoft Exchange to manage Contacts?
  • If your contacts are all in iCloud, have you tried managing lists on the iCloud.com website?
  • Have you updated to macOS 13.2.1?
  • Do you have a Time Machine backup of your Mac and an archive of your contacts? We highly recommend this before making major changes to your Contacts data.

Your responses to these questions will help us understand the issue better and work towards a resolution with you.

The resources below may help you address this issue:

Export or archive contacts in Contacts on Mac - Contacts User Guide

Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud

Create and change lists in Contacts on Mac - Contacts User Guide

I'm having the same problem. All my contacts are from iCloud only. Running Ventura 13.2.1 on a 16" MacBook Pro 2021. No third-party apps loading at start up except TeamViewer which I use to access my client's computers. Contacts has always been touchy but the problem started with Ventura. I've been doing Apple IT for 30 years and can't figure this one out.
