turn off AirPrint on Mac Ventura

AirPrint is making some print options on my Epson P700 printer unavailable. How do I turn AirPrint off on my Mac Ventura?

iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021, 2 ports)

Thanks. Here's what I discovered after hours and hours of looking for a work around. I have an Epson SureColor P700 and a 2021 iMac running Ventura OS. True, trying to turn off AirPrint was impossible. My intent was to find the Epson driver that included advanced "Printer Options" specifically Advanced B&W (ABW) using a USB connection. On a Mac, the driver from Epson only displays advanced Printer Options if you use the wireless WiFi connection when you set your printer up. It won't appear with a straight USB connection. The wireless connection has glitches and is often slower. That's why I was trying the USB connection. AirPrint actively kills the advanced driver component on a USB connection because Apple wants to make printer-computer connections automatic without having to download print drivers. So I had to revert to WiFi connection in order to access ABW. The culprit is AirPrint.

Give this a try: while using AirPrint boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Thanks for answering my question. The problem with the Epson driver is it's always installed as an AirPrint driver - and as a result a lot of the functions of the non AirPrint Epson print driver are unavailable, such as Advanced Black & White and Printer Options. AirPrint Epson drivers reduce some functions of the non-AirPrint driver. That's why I wanted to dump the AirPrint in favor of the non AirPrint driver. The only non AirPrint driver requires a wireless Wi Fi connection which I was hoping to avoid. So I'm stuck with the Wi Fi connection driver. There is no other option to take full advantage of the Epson driver.

When you add the Printer, you select the driver. AirPrint will likely be the default, but you just change it to whatever you have installed.

When you select Print, among the options in the Printer menu will be any AirPrint capable printer on the network. There will also be the printers you have manually configured.

There are option to select the last used printer by default.

Nothing in AirPrint should prevent you from selecting the printer and driver you configured.
