Hello Dtowncuz,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. We’d like to assist and recommend some steps to help out. First, there are some basic steps you can try. To help refresh things, restart both your iPhone and your MacBook:
1.) Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
2.) Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
When your MacBook restarts, try connecting in a different USB port. Disconnect other accessories that might be connected as well. If you have any security firewalls or anti-virus programs installed, temporally disable them. This can sometimes cause interference with communications.
If that doesn't help, we recommend that you update your iPhone to the latest iOS version. This also includes various fixes as well. Just in case, this resource can guide you on how to update your iPhone via your Settings menu:
Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
1.)Back up your device using iCloud.
2.)Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3.)Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4.) If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5.) Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.
Feel free to keep us posted on your results. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
