Plastic layer on MacBook Pro display

Has anyone noticed a plastic layer on the MacBook Pro displays? Apple claims that the displays have an antiglare coating, which is correct. The layer with the antiglare coating is the first layer of the display and is approximately 0.8mm thick and serves as a protective shield for the delicate glass, which is only 0.2mm thick. Without this added layer, the glass would be prone to breaking or cracking under normal usage conditions.

However, this discovery raises a valid concern: Why doesn't Apple use the same high-quality displays as the iPad, which feature a glass layer instead of plastic? It seems as though this plastic layer is just not up to par with Apple's standards for quality and durability.

Has anyone else noticed this plastic layer on their MacBook Pro display? It can be a bit disheartening to know that the part of the device that is constantly exposed to wear and tear from the keyboard and daily usage is made from plastic, giving it a cheap and unsatisfactory feel.

The high cost of the MacBook display raises concerns, especially given its use of plastic instead of glass. At over $1100 AUD, one would expect a premium, durable material to be used. Despite the display not being designed for fingers, it's still prone to unsightly marks and scratches that can be difficult to remove. Cleaning the display with a microfiber cloth may result in light surface scratches that become visible in bright environments. All in all, these displays lack the durability and strength that one would expect from such a high-priced device.
