timezone set to pacific standard and grayed out

Mac M2, Ventura 13.2

I am unable to manually set the timezone. It is set to Cupertino (go figure) and the nearest city selections is limited to California. I did a bit of googling and found a few similar issues but none of the suggestion has worked. I also tried turning on location services and enabling set time zone automatically. The time of course was set to pacific and the timezone remained on pacific.

As a workaround I set the time manually for my location but I prefer to have the time set automatically. I don't care about setting the time zone automatically if I am able to set it manually.

Thanks for any suggestions

Not being able to manually set the time zone is the issue. With setting automatically set time zone to off, there isn't a set button to allow manual changing of the time zone.
A related issue in that turning on location services will not update the time zone setting as well. There has to be some other setting that is not configured properly. The location service details has everything turned on except for Find my Mac

I am Cupertino but here is my example, I have auto OFF.

Did you set Closest City?

did you try turning on Find My Mac if there is an issue and related(?) as a test.

Alternatively— from the Terminal.app copy and paste:

sudo systemsetup -listtimezones | more

example:

sudo systemsetup -settimezone America/Denver

verify:

sudo systemsetup -gettimezone
