url doesn't show in safari address bar

Hi there! I'm finding that when I visit a site, the URL doesn't always show up in the URL bar. It makes it difficult to copy and paste a URL when I need to. It also makes the tab show up as "untitled", making it difficult to identify the tabs. It's very odd and fairly recent. Possibly since I upgraded to Ventura. thanks for any advice.

Thank you but that's not the problem. And I already have that checked.

The problem is that no URL shows up at all. When I click in the smart search bar to copy the address, it's not there at all. It happened with this page, when I clicked from the email notification. But if I copy the link from email and paste it, it's fine.

Hello traypup,

Thanks for the info. Does the issue occur when you type the web address in the Search field yourself or only when clicking web addresses in emails?

Also, does the issue occur in safe mode? If you are not familiar with the safe mode steps, you can follow the steps here: How to use safe mode on your Mac to get it done. Once in safe mode, you'd want to use the Mac as you normally would to see if the issue occurs again. You can tell when the Mac is in safe mode because on the desktop it will show the words Safe Boot in the top right-hand corner of the screen. The steps are also listed below.

" Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window. "

Best regards.

Hi traypup,

The support article Change Advanced settings in Safari on Mac offers the following setting which may help resolve this concern for you:

"In the Safari app  on your Mac, use Advanced settings to increase accessibility, specify a style sheet, change the default encoding, and turn on the Develop menu.

To change these settings, choose Safari > Settings, then click Advanced.

Show full website address

Have the Smart Search field show the full address of the website you’re viewing instead of just the domain name. For example, www.apple.com/safari/ instead of apple.com."

Regards.
