(Error code -36)

When copying a any folder from the iCloud to the Local Hard Drive using Finder I get "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “” can’t be read or written.

(Error code -36)"

1) I am logged in as administrator with full permissions

2) I can copy the individual files without a problem

3) Terminal command dot_clean does not seem to help

4) The folder root shows the Icon that there are downloads pending (Cloud with down arrow) but DOWNLOAD NOW achieves nothing

5) I have a good strong Internet connection

6) There are no visible differences between what I see on the Mac under ICLOUD DRIVE and what I see on the web in ICLOUD

7) There is plenty of disk space and the problem happens if I have the settings OPTIMIZE MAC STORAGE on or off.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Much as I tried, I never found a solution. Out of desperation and what seemed like hundreds of restart, and being tired of using terminal, I logged out of ICloud in the settings and then logged back in. That seems to have solved the problem. I do recommend you have a strong backup before doing this. I lost some links but so far I did not loos any files.

Suddenly my iCloud Drive started to re-upload my entire content of the iCloud Drive (> 300k files). It took hours and I couldn't use the files during this time. I have no idea why this happened. I didn't do anything and all the data was already in the iCloud Drive. I checked on other devices and on iCloud.com. It didn't make sense at all.

Anyway.. It just finished re-uploading and now everything works fine.

But now I'm looking for an reliable alternative for iCloud Drive. After all the forum posts I've read, I'm really afraid to use iCloud for my data, even if I back up to an external hard drive every now and then.
