Siri Remote loses volume control weekly, requiring restart. Is there a bug reported and when will this be fixed?

Mother in law has the new Apple TV with Siri Remote. I’ve programmed it to control Samsung tv volume and more recently Samsung soundbar volume. In both scenarios, the remote stops controlling the volume 5-10 days later and requires a restart. The fix is temporary and needs to happen again every 5-10 days. Is this a known bug? Is there some firmware update for the remote I can do?

Same here. At least once a week the volume buttons, which control my receiver via IR, stop working. To fix it I have to do a hard reset on the remote where it unpairs and repairs to the Apple TV. Then it works again for maybe another week before it stops working and I need to repeat that process.

When it stops working, the receiver remote still works fine for controlling the volume; the Apple TV Remote works for everything except volume control. Turning off the Apple TV and back on again does not solve it, neither does a hard power cycle. Only resetting the remote fixes it until the issue returns again in approximately a week.

After the remote has been reset I always check the battery level and it’s always been somewhere between 30% and 100% - never close enough to 0 for the battery to be the issue.

The Apple TV is almost always updated. Current version is 16.3.2 and the volume keys are currently not functioning.

Hey there Ststevenson007,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

Since you're able to temporarily resolve the issue by restarting the remote, have you checked to ensure that the Apple TV is running the latest tvOS version?

If it's not, since updating can often bring the latest features, security updates, and bug fixes, we would recommend updating the tvOS version and test the issue further. For help with updating the software on the Apple TV, check out this link here: Update your Apple TV - Apple Support

Update your Apple TV manually
1. Go to Settings > System > Software Updates and select Update Software.
2. If there's an update, select Download and Install.
3. Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Keep your Apple TV connected and plugged in to power until the update is complete.

After the update downloads, your Apple TV will restart, prepare the update, then install it. When the update is complete, your Apple TV will automatically restart again.

Keep us updated on the results, and we'll continue from there.

Take care.
