Resetting site scaling in Safari 16.3

After I upgraded Safari from version 16.2 to 16.3, I no longer have the ability to scale sites.

Bug playback path:

Open any website
Start zooming in any way — via hotkeys or the View ➜ Zoom menu
The zoom is updated in the same second
After about 0.5-1 second, the zoom returns to 100% value.

There are no extensions in the browser, it started clearly after the Safari update. I performed a reboot and other basic actions.

macOS 12.6.3 Monterey on the Intel MacBook Pro.

Have your tried clearing your Safari history, then test to see if you're able to zoom in on webpages normally? If needed, learn how here: Clear your browsing history in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

Hi,

I ended up going to /Users/[username]/Library/Safari/

Deleted the 'PerSiteZoomPreferences.plist' and all the PerSitePreferences in the end.

Maybe do one by one to not muck up Per Site preferences, but I did not care to try that in the end.

Seems to make PerSite zoom sticky again.

Clearing the cache and all other data, alas, did not help. I also know how to zoom pages, that's the problem :)

The situation is similar on Safari Technology Preview Release 162 (Safari 16.4, WebKit 17615.1.18.2). Just in case, I even reset the SMC and NVRAM parameters.

I can't update on Ventura yet because of the peculiarities of adapting working tools, and the Safari build, as far as I understand, is no different there.

Is there any way I can share a screen recording here to understand the situation?

I'm also experiencing the same Zoom behavior. I'm on macOS Ventura 13.2 and Safari 16.3 (18614.4.6.1.5).

After a second or two the Zoom In goes back to 100%. I've noticed this behavior after the last macOS update.

It does not matter if I zoom in ou out via keyboard shortcut (cmd + or cmd -) or through the menu.

I'm on a Macbook Pro 15"(2017).

This is also happening to me following a series of Safari updates, I'm in Monterey, 2019 i9, 32gigs.

Everything else in my system is healthy

Command +/- sets the scale level for a fraction of a second and then it snaps back to 100%

** This is also happening in the Safari Technology Preview

[edit] I have a dummy account on this machine I use to test anomalies, Safari seems to work perfectly in that account

Opening a site inside a private tab solves the scaling issue.....I have no idea why, since dumping the cookies for that site accomplished nothing in a regular tab

[edit] refreshing the private tab, snaps the scaling back to ridiculous, so not really a long term solution

Thanks for the idea! Alas, it didn't help in my case.

As far as I understand, these 4 files are also cleared when the cache and Safari data are reset.

The situation is sad, of course. We don't appreciate it until we lose it 😁

that definitely corrected some of the more ridiculous zoom levels, but didn't allow any to spring back....I think I'm gonna have to take a peek in the containers
